Glansin Glass

Glansin Glass

Whether you’re looking for a special handmade gift, a souvenir of you time in Shetland or a crafting experience to remember, Glansin Glass is a wonderful place to visit.Cheryl Jamieson started Glansin Glass in 2008 after discovering kiln-formed glass on a trip to Norway. She had always wanted to develop her creative side and dreamed of having her own craft business. In fused glass she finally found her ideal medium and it allows her to express her love for her native islands and create beautiful pieces of art that capture something of the essence of the place she calls home.Cheryl is a proud Shetlander, and her work is very much inspired by her roots. Shetland is famous for many things such as knitwear, archaeology, geology and music and this eclectic range of inspirations shines through. The new Glansin Glass visitor centre opened in 2021 and is the perfect place to indulge yourself or a loved one and purchase a completely unique piece. You can also book a glass making workshop. Cheryl will give you a warm welcome and help you to make your very own piece of Glansin Glass.Glansin Glass is Shetland glass – through and through!

Gord

Gord

Fetlar, “The Garden of Shetland”, is one of the Northern Isles but very accessible with up to eight daily return ferries in the Summer – it is an easy day trip from the Mainland.Gord Guest House is the only guest house on Fetlar at Houbie, in the centre of the island. As in the shop and café, we use fresh, local produce wherever possible including beef, lamb, mutton and pork produced on our farm.  We also currently have two self-catering holiday properties available, a one bedroomed chalet at Aithness and a four bedroomed croft house at Tresta, overlooking Tresta Wick, which can be configured as a three bedroomed house with a one bedroomed annexe. We are happy to supply meals to those self-catering, either delivered to the house or to eat at Gord Guest House. At the shop and café we are open seven days a week through the Summer (five days a week in the Winter). We re-stock once a week and are happy to take orders on a Monday which will be available in the shop on Wednesday. In the café we serve homemade soup, hot and cold filled rolls, homebakes and coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cold drinks throughout the year. Our farm has a herd of over 30 breeding cows (a mixture of Shetlands, Highlands, Beef Shorthorn and Galloways) and around 600 breeding sheep (a mixture of Shetlands, Suffolks and Blackfaces). We also have three pigs: Iron Age, Gloucester old spot cross and Saddleback cross sows.

Unst Partnership Ltd.

Unst Partnership Ltd.

Unst Partnership produces a tourist map of the island each year, highlighting local sights and businesses. As well as our own website which lists what we do, we also look after two other websites: "Visit-unst.com" which carries general tourist information including accommodation; and "Unst Walkers are Welcome" which lists walking trails. We have been a local development company since 2000 and run a charity shop open on Thursdays and Saturdays 2-4pm, next door to the Final Checkout shop at Hagdale, Baltasound. This year we are in the process of negotiating with Shetland Amenity Trust to take over the Viking galley and longhouse site in Haroldswick to manage it locally. We are happy to assist with any tourism enquiries and our office at Hagdale is usually open 10-5pm Mon-Fri, 2-4pm on Saturdays.
